I think you’ll know right away if this book is for you or not. Basically the whole concept of toxic masculinity is the bad guy here and I’m a big fan of anything that cuts it down to size. It doesn’t hurt that the villain in this novel is the personification of toxic masculinity. I even came to be charmed by the interesting set of side characters she’s forced to work with. Zoey is charming as she adapts to her new roles and I was rooting for her the whole time. These decisions do not come easily in a world where live streaming violence to large social media audiences has been monetized.įuturistic Violence and Fancy Suits is immensely entertaining. She has to quickly decide who she can trust and how to survive in a society far different from her rural home town. Zoey is actually being hunted by all sorts of maniacs looking to cash in on the bounty placed on her.

She’s rescued by a stranger in a fancy suit, well, by his hologram, and the book takes off from there. This sets the stage rather well for the type of near future in which this book takes place.
